Hi, I’m Abi Westerlin

I’m a multidisciplinary communicator and designer who likes to work across graphic design, photography, video, and writing, mostly because I get bored being put in one box and I’m genuinely good at moving between them (not to be boastful…). I’ve spent the last several years working in agency, university, and in-house environments, creating work that’s meant to live in the real world. I care a lot about clarity, consistency, and making things that feel intentional from start to finish.

Outside of work, I’m a Pisces sun with a Scorpio moon and rising, meaning I’m intuitive, intense about the things I love, and extremely detail-oriented once I care (which is most of the time). I’m an avid climber and am always looking for new climbing buddies, live music, or an excuse to be outside. My family is everything to me and keeps me grounded, no matter how busy life gets.

I love films that feel a little unsettling or stick with you longer than they should (Midsommar, Donnie Darko, A Complete Unknown), and punk is always my go-to, especially midwest emo. Concerts are my happy place, and seeing Bob Dylan live is still one of my favorite memories (very grateful I caught him when I did).

My Approach

I’m very concept-driven in how I work. Before I start designing or writing, I like to sit with the idea and figure out what it’s really trying to say and who it’s for. Once the concept is clear, everything else (visuals, tone, pacing, details) falls into place more naturally. I care about the details, but only because they support the bigger idea. If the concept is strong, the work feels cohesive, intentional, and honest.
